2 JUNE 14 MONDAY

Pre-camp [3A] Fastest Ball Challenge
~ What sounds interesting about this project?
I like how we get to explore the angle of inclination to see which one would result in the fastest timing
~ What do you think you can learn from this project?
I would be able to learn the concept behind how the angle of inclination actually affects the timing of the ball to reach the ground.
~ Any immediate questions regarding the project?

Pre-camp [3B] Extraction of caffeine from Beverages
~ What sounds interesting about this project?
I find it really interesting that we get to extract caffeine from various beverages as I have never done such an experiment before and I think it would be something new for me and definitely something that i would treasure.
~ What do you think you can learn from this project?
I'll learn how to handle certain lab equipments with more care and how to conduct this kind of experiments again
~ Any immediate questions regarding the project?

3 JUNE 14 TUESDAY

~ What did you do today? (Your day’s activities)
Today, we had the fastest ball challenge where we got to experiment different types of inclination angles and see which one would cause the ball to reach the end the fastest. We also had the fastest dive challenge where we had to predict which weight (light or heavy) would reach the end of a tube of detergent first. Also, we went to the laboratory to prepare 8 packets of 2 grams of tea in a bag for tomorrow's experiment regarding extraction of caffeine.
~ What did you learn today? (Learning points)
Today, we learnt many physics formulas which would actually affect the time taken for the ball or the weight to reach the end.
~ How do you feel about today’s activities?
I find today's activities really engaging. Although some concepts were really difficult to grasp, the lecturers were very patient and made sure we understood the concepts. Overall, today was a very productive and interesting day and I can't wait for tomorrow where we would get to extract the caffeine!

4 JUNE 14 WEDNESDAY

~ What did you do today? (Your day's activities)
Today, we completed the caffeine extraction experiment. We had to do a lot of steps before we could obtain the solid caffeine.
~ What did you learn today? (Learning points)
I learnt that caffeine can have a negative effect and a positive effect on people. Some of the negative effects include headaches and giddiness. Also, 100 cups of coffee will cause death! Positive effect is obviously the fact that it can wake us up when we are sleepy.
How do you feel about today’s activities?
Today's activities were really fun and I definitely saw many cool things which I might not be able to see in SST's laboratory. Also, in the laboratory there were some rules which we had to abide by. Overall, the lab was really interesting and cool.

5 JUNE 14 THURSDAY

~ Plenary Sessions
o   We learnt what 3D printing is used for
o   We learnt the applications for 3D printing
o   We learnt the future developments of 3D printing

~ How do you feel about the SST-NTU Flagship programme?
o   Describe how the programme has affected your understanding of the discipline on a larger scale
We must really follow all instructions given to us as that might be the rule of the place that we are working in (For example: The laboratories)
o   Share your insights for the programme in general
This whole programme really stretched my mind to understand certain concepts. The lecturers were also really patient with us, and I am thankful for that. Overall, this programme was engaging and I definitely got to learn many things.
